Carbon brake discs were mainly used in the aviation industry since the 70s due to the need for weight reduction and the stable brake performance in high temperatures. It has been applied to Formula 1 race cars since the ‘80s and recognized for its excellent heat resistance and performance.
The brake performance of regular cast-iron brake discs decreases dramatically due to the heat or the heat deformation. Carbon brake discs can be braked for a short time even at high speed, providing stable brake performance without heat deformation at high temperatures.
